5 HAIR CARE TIPS FOR AUTUMN

So summer is slowly inching to a close and autumn is coming upon us. With that comes pumpkins, mums, spice lattes, chunky sweaters and all sorts of fall related activities. But that's not all it brings. It also brings cooler, dryer weather which can be really confusing for your hair.

So here are some of my top tips for transitioning your hair from summer to fall.

CLARIFY

After a long summer of fun in the sun chances are your hair is chock full of chlorine, salt water, sunscreen & all sorts of gunk. Get a good clarifying shampoo & go to town to really cleanse your hair & enter into the new season with a clean slate - or at least with your hair. For more tips on clarifying just click here. Need a good clarifying shampoo? My current fave is MoroccanOil Clarifying Shampoo.

SWITCH UP YOUR PRODUCTS

It's a good idea to switch up your styling products every once in a while regardless so it's an easy way to remember to do it with the change of seasons. With the dryer air & lack of humidity comes a need for some new products. There's no more summer moisture in the air so you're going to need to put some back in your hair somehow. Either partner with your stylist to get a glaze or in-salon moisture treatment or get a more moisturizing shampoo then you've been using in the summer. My current fave collection for moisture is the Kerastase Nutritive collection - especially the Kerastase Masquintense which will def get the job done & comes in two formulas - one for finer hair & one for your thicker manes.

UPDATE YOUR COLOR

Mostly likely the sun has altered or faded your hair color in some way or another. There are a ton of options here. Everything from adding lowlights, to a glaze to put some depth & richness back in your hair color to completely changing up the color all together. With this lovely lady I just added some coppery balayage to give us the autumn feels.

TRIM IT UP

Has your hair spent the majority of the summer up in a messy bun or air dried with chlorine & salt water still in it? Well then most likely your hair could use a little trim or dusting to start off the new season right.

AMP UP THE OIL

I know most of you think sweater weather is better weather but your hair has not been rubbing up against a jacket collar, chunky sweater or scarf for months & this is going to cause some dryness, friction & static So keep some oils on you to rub through your ends if your hair starts looking crazy. Kerastase oils are great for this because they come in a wide array of formulations so you don't have to be concerned if you have finer hair & you're worried an oil will weigh it down or make it greasy. Those are oils of the past. The Kerastase Elixir Ultime is a good in between one that would work for most hair types & smells amazing!

Cheers - Hal
